Black Metal Silliness

Those who know me know that I am a huge black metal fan and even I found this funny. This is just a take on the awe and shock promoted by black metallers in their photo shoots in an attempt to create this dark atmosphere replete with pagan imagery. The intention is to remain 'true' to the cause - corpse paint, bleak winters in the mountains, old forests, primitive wicca/occult rituals and medieval weapons. Of course, some of them carry it off very well but at some point of time the charade just turns out to be that - a charade. To see exactly what I mean, visit this page.

Sans the paint or color on the face, all your pics look pretty much like these.

Man, the most 'decent' looking black metallers I have seen is Emperor. No major shock value. Just music to bust your ass with madness. And the best cover art I have ever seen is probably Immortal - At the heart of winter. See, the best thing that these guys could do is just make great artistic cover art to portray quaint imagery. Not standing like wussies with all crappy face paint over them and trying to show off that they are uncool, fearful and provocative, while actually they are being silly and humorous, like those pictures. Well, anyway, as long as they produce great black metal music, we wouldn't give a damn what they do personally.

right on Nazguuuuul, the music speaks for itself. The imagery helps when it compliments the music but just on its own it looks.......
